Speaking of mangos...

...my son doesn't like the Mexican/Costa Rica ones either - just like his dad. I pureed them and made them perfect for him and when i put the spoon in his mouth his whole body shivered with disgust. It was the funniest and saddest thing i've seen. It was obviously too sour for him. I guess i have about 16 more months until those Indian mangos start getting imported. Until then, i guess i have to eat the pureed mangos all myself...mango lassi here i come!

How's that for the Little Dude being just like his father? He may not look Pakistani, but he is in every other way.

wayfarer...you are not supposed to give mangoes to babies so soon! Well that is what my pediatrician told me hen I asked her, she said to stick with apple, banana, orange and pear for a few months. She said don't give her strawberries, apricots etc, and certainly not mangoes. I let you know when she says it is ok to give them (but of course you do what you want lol)

I have never heard that. I've been told it's okay for them to eat mango at 7 months.

But then you say oranges are okay per your doctor and most here say to avoid any citrus (lemon, orange, etc) until they are a year old.

I don't know why two countries would have different opinions though.

yes that is weird!!! We start fruits with orange lol. I guess each country has it owns things regarding baby feeding. I know in the UK my sil have no clue of what she can give to her daughter as teh doctors there dont0 bother telling her, she told me the other day she was feeding her custard! And custard has eggs, and, at least here, we don't give eggs till 10 or 11 months and her baby is only 7 months:)

Yeah we wait for a year on that. Some people do egg yolks at 8 months since the white part, not the yolk, is what causes the allergies.

We don't do citrus here until a year because it's the most allergenic fruit for babies.

A lot of people don't know what to feed their babies unless they use the jars of baby food and then they are marked with 1 or 2. I've seen people giving their kids whatever if they don't have allergies running in their family. It's about more than allergies though, babies don't have the enzymes to break down certain foods. That's why they start with rice, then move on to wheat...their bodies can't break it down so they don't get any vitamins from it and it also weakens their system.

I'm making my own baby food so i am doing a lot of research so i know what i can and can't give my little man.

yes that is the best, making your own food for them, I do the same and it works perfect, I remember one day we were travellign and obviosuly I couldn't do her the fruit puree I always do for merienda (like tea time lol), and I had to buy one ready made...my poor baby she hated it so much, she was crying the whole time and at the end I just desisted giving her and prayed we reached home fast to feed her properly lol. About the eggs, yes we start only with egg yolk but around 10 or 11 months, the egg white have to wait for the reason you said. Some people just think that as you said if there is no allergies then they can eat anthing, but they don't realise the bodies of the babies are not ready for certain foods. It's a pity that doctors don't advise better in some places.

I don't like mangos, as the smell drives me nuts! But sometimes i like mango lassi made with the canned mango pulp. Peaches are a good substitute for me.

The other day i let my baby briefly lick a piece of mango. She made such a funny face, licking her little gums and looking worried. It was so cute! But other than that, i just gave her a lil bit of rice cereal before. No fruits yet. Do you mix your lil dude's cereal with water or EBM?

I will start first with banana and sweet potato and other mild things. My mom told me she fed me wheat cereal in my bottle when i was 3 months old. That made me sad cause she didn't know any better and just did it to make me sleepy :( Oh well...

I use ebm for the cereal but he's never really liked cereal. He started with banana, avocado, and sweet potato. He still loves all three.

I am using the super baby food book as a guide for his food.

All our parents did weird things. My mil was just telling me how she fed all her kids egg yolks for the first food because dr spock (the equivalent of dr sears in our generation) recommended it. I wonder what our kids will think we were crazy to do with them when they have kids. :-p When i get his shots, i'm so afraid that's what's gonna be considered crazy in their time.
